I like to disagree that this was a disappointing announcement...
Actually they gave all the relevant information's pointing to a high probability for a discovery in the reported and at that time already drilled well section.
They reported elevated gas up to C5. They said, "background gas is higher than at M1" (without telling us the exact units of background gas in both wells) in this section but additionally the "elevated gas readings were up to 70 times above background gas"
=> they reported without doubt more gas in M2 than in M1 in this well section!
They said, heavier HC (C4 & C5) have been detected => wet gas with a higher share of condensate than at M1
LWD resistivity + low Gamma Ray readings => HC presence! (The gas reduces the narutal radioactivity in the fmt. leading to low Gamma Ray values)
Drilling break with losses of drilling mud => drilling break and the loss of drilling mud are indicative for porosity and good permeability => good quality reservoir sands
I think one can't expect more from an interim operational progress report from a drilling. More definitive answers are only possible after reaching TD and wireline logging the well.
The announcement is basically a major de-risk of this drilling and by no way disappointing... For me everything said points to a wet gas discovery in this part of the well...
...and I'm sure, we will also get the "fluorescence" in the next announcement from the deeper parts of this well...
