Totally agree Shutts. I hope myself saying I took some profits at $3 didn't come across that way. Just to be clear, I have been quite down on myself for not taking all my profits at $3. I was very concerned things would play out exactly as they did. However, I was still unable to follow through and sell everything. I see this as a big mistake and if the same opportunity presents, I hope I will act differently. The LTR offer was nonbinding and with Gina accumulating on market, the bid was in serious jeopardy. I realised ALB might walk and I realised the downside was $1+, but I still wanted to remain invested. The smarter play was to take my money, sit it out and look to reinvest once there was more clarity. The people who did that are laughing, but they shouldn't be gloating.
For those using CGT as a reason for not selling at $3, I don't think those buying back in at depressed prices would give a hoot about their CGT obligation. Even after paying their tax, they could end up with 50% larger shareholding after buying back in and extra dividends, if that is their end goal. We live and learn, but important to remain grateful for what we have and not put others down.
