In a statement, Mr Lindsay alleged Mr Katter confronted him at the airport on the afternoon of May 30.

A furious Mr Katter told Mr Lindsay that "you Liberals are slimy dogs and you are the lowest of the low".

Mr Katter initially left Mr Lindsay for several minutes but returned for another serve.

Mr Lindsay alleged, in his handwritten statement: "He said he would have me killed and I better believe it because he could make that happen."

He told police "I couldn't believe the threat that was made and was shocked. I took him seriously". It is understood a third person heard some of the conversation and his mobile phone number was provided to police.

The Qantas flight crew were also alerted to the threat.
