Some negative nellies will see the reference to Sodium ion batteries as the death knell for Lithium based batteries. I believe the fear of new battery technologies "replacing" Lithium batteries is part of what is holding back the SP for lithium miners. This either/or reaction is understandable but way too simplistic for a number of reasons :-

1) There is room for more than 1 battery chemistry.

2) The long term unknowns will mean that any new chemistry will be gradually introduced e.g solid state batteries look like they could be a good option if some hurdles can be overcome. Toyota is working on this and hope to trial them in 4 to 5 years. The issue is how long do they trial them? If they suddenly introduce them in millions of Toyotas and find they (all) fail in 1 -5 years time they will have lawsuits out their wazoo.

3) Vulcan will (should) be a very low cost producer of Lithium so wherever final lithium demand eventually falls too Vulcan will be the lowest cost producer whilst hard rock miners will not be able to compete.

At the moment Vulcan is not getting many votes. As Warren Buffett (paraphrasing Benjamin Graham) mentioned - in the short term the market is a voting machine, in the long term it is a weighing machine. Time will tell if the current antiVUL posters are correct or not but their lack of evidence or thought in their posts gives me some confidence that they should be ignored.
