"But the cost of BlueGen isnt a make or break thing for CFU. How many people pay $1000 for a Blueberry or iPhone when there are plenty of other phones out there for far less money, have better reception, battery life but dont have the bells and whistles."
Yeah, but no-one buys an iPhone expecting it to provide a return on their initial investment. An iPhone is a consumer item - you don't expect it to hook up to the phone network and generate you income by becoming a mobile phone tower.
The Bluegen unit needs to be cheap enough that it generates a return within 3 years of purchase - given that the fuel cell has an expected life of 10 years.
Power companies are in the business of selling electricity to make money, not giving out units to generate electricity and not seeing a return on their investment!
