Even someone of average intelligence can recognize the schizophrenic nature of AZL projects. Management realized a couple years ago that Big Sandy would not get mining permits in this decade. They also realized that the future of lithium is in DLE. So they took the money they had raised with promises of profits from Arizona clay, and threw it into a Canadian oil brine project that has some potential but at best is worth half of what they paid for it.

You can believe that DLE is the future of lithium, without believing that Prairie is the best way to invest in it. There are better projects in Canada, and those are not as attractive as others in the US and elsewhere.

As long as there is money in the bank, the Perth payroll will continue. As an M&A target, the company is not attractive because no one wants to buy a lawsuit, and that’s what Big Sandy offers.

Notably, it is the Australians and not the Native Americans who are being silent and inscrutable about the water issue. Those who fantasize that the Hualapai have changed their mind, at the urging of Navajo friends, will find it difficult to explain the part of the story you didn’t quote:

"There's not enough water in the area," says Philip Wisely, director of the Hualapai Tribe's Public Service Department. "So this is the wrong place to put a mine for lithium."
