Can anyone remember who was the head of treasury who lamb blasted the Coalition Govt under John Howard for spending an extra $1 billion in an election promise. Came out and said that it was inflationary and subsequently the Reserve Bank put the interest rates up once again. From memory this was the first time that a) the Treasury had made such comments about an Govt program during an election and b) never heard of an interest rate hike during the last days before an election held.

The same Treasury Official then went on to say the fiscal management and spending by the newly elected Rudd/Labor Govt was justified and prudent etc. Forget about no checks and balances on how, when, what, risk management and fore thought as to economic rational of such huge expenditure of tens and tens if not 50 billion dollars......Similar expenditures also made by Labor State Govt's which will take decades to finance.and repay. Good bye to future essential infrastructure projects required by the next generation or two.

Then an unannounced 40% minerals tax which the Govt says they had wide consultation with the mining industry before announcing. Unfortunately, they forgot to talk it over with the companies that made up the mining industry. Rudd and JG then did their little PM pass the parcel trick, the parcel being a 10 inch knife, and we know who one that one....the unelected union officials and the savior of the Australian little people. The new govt then enter into further negotiations with the large mining coy's but this time forgot the little ones and the rest of the business community.

It is no wonder 500000 extra voters voted for a Coalition Govt and I look forward to seeking how this new one will work with the independents......I am of the view that we could see quite a few positives result for the whole of Australia, especially those outside the urban capital cities.

Why would Tony Abbott not want to have his policy and election promises checked by Treasury officials. 1.It had a history of releasing details to media and Labor Govt ...committing a blatant criminal act; and 2. History of clear bias for Labor Govt clearly seen before '07 election and throughout the last 3 years. There are many other reasons, certainly articulated by others in this thread which further justifies this action by our possible next PM.

For what it is worth I believe that Tony Abbott "is right to deny costings" at this stage until he is satisfied that they will be correctly handled as is expected in normal and ethical Govt/Treasury policy and procedures.

    Regards all, Bernie
