There are a heap of great drugs for T2DM. TBH, any injectable whether a GLP1 agonist or insulin is getting towards the end of the line. Patients will usually try a better lifestyle (best option), then Metformin, then another oral line like an SGLT2i first.

The unfortunate truth is the sheer volume of type 2 diabetics is because of a rubbish lifestyle. Not some sinister underlying metabolic disorder. If you fail on 2 or 3 lines of hypoglycaemic Tx then you have to have a good look in the mirror.

20 years ago T2DM was called 'mature onset' as usually your grandparents developed it.

Now kids are getting it.

There are more overweight people in the world than there are starving.

Its a sad state of affairs.
