The multi conductor cable they use for this sort of work is usually around 10-13mm outside diameter.
Breaking strain of the cable......probably around 5-6000lbs but don't quote me on that
Note that the cable has weak point installed which will always part before the cable does. The weak point failure tension is the critical figure you use when working out your maximum safe pull (MSP) during a wireline run. MSP is as measured at the winch so it will vary according to tool weight, amount of cable you've got paid out as well as weak point specs.

One important thing I always did as soon as I sat down for a wireline run was to check that the Winchman had the MSP and a hole diagram drawn on the unit window in black Texta. Nothing worse then getting stuck and having to furiously fumble to find your MSP calculations.
