In Australia VFACTS is the official car industry stats source
and VFACTS says that YTD Oct 2023 that both plug-in and
Hybrids are gaining market share(see post above) and as they say in investing:
"The Trend is your friend"
I can appreciate that some "petrol heads" and "diesel heads) )(Im one)
object on an emotional basis to EVs simply because they don't understand
them ...I can understand that. But over the longer term the Market is King, IMO.
The big issue in Aus is that the average Aussie punter buys secondhand...not new..
and there is simply not enough 4 year old used EVs /Hybrids out there to
supply the demand...hence the high prices.
This is a 2018 Toyota VITZ (Yaris Hybrid) with 55,000 kms .....the cheapest local Yaris Hybrid that
can be bought in Aus is a 2021 model @ about $27K ($36K new with 12 months waiting list) Early
2022 Corolla Hatch Hybrids are going for about $33K !!!! The reason for these high prices is low
supply and that will likely continue until both new and secondhand supply catches up with demand, IMO.
