I try not to, but with my past, having lived as a small child, then teenager through the tail-end of WWII In Europe, Vienna, Austria; battled my way through the history of the Jewish tragedy, executed by 'my' people - (finding out, by virtue of reading 'Der Spiegel' , which devoted itself to historic truth-telling. - - but unable to finish because of the horror of it all . . )
Our school history teaching did not include WWII!!! - different now, only a few years later school children had to research a Hitler victim's fate and family - my first 'boy-friend' found out he was Jewish, through such a High School student finding his grandmother among the victims, his mother had always told him, she was Palestinian, which was a lie, she was from a Jewish Italian-Tyrolean family her father having been an army surgeon during the Old Austrian monarchy
- and being familiar and friendly with Jewish people, often without realising what fate had befallen them or their relatives - etc. etc. -
but you probably know a lot from reading my effusive posts (
I try to stop myself, though) - it has taken me a lifetime trying to understand, trying to stay fair etc. etc. and am glad I am not a man, who might be called up to go to war and follow mindlessly, whatever his superiors might order him to do . . , ' or else!!'
Well, I am too old for that now, anyway - but you get my drift, I hope.
Thankyou for your life story - so sorry you never felt close to your Mum - I and my mother were very close - I am less so with my three daughters - eldest is my 'Cordelia' who probably had the hardest life, by virtue of us being so young when she was born - young and new to this country and really battling for a long time - middle child was the happiest and easiest child (she became the musician); youngest was spoilt and has touches of narcissism, hence I knew of Sam Vaknin - but she is not a bad case, married a raging narcissist in her first marriage and I think that has damaged her. Second daughter was a moderately successful musician/composer/performer, but had made Britain her home, she died - now almost 3 years ago - in England and I couldn't be with her due to Covid. Due to her I had some amazing experiences over in Britain and on one European Tour she did with Mark Knopfler . . . (I accompanied them for a while on their tour bus in France) - She was a marvellous violinist but also pianist and composer. I
have only just now recovered from the overwhelming . . . sadness . . . .anger . . . . regret . . . . sadness, again - etc. which made me physically ill, but am battling my way back.
Back to the sad Israel-Palestine conflict: I can relate to all those poor people involved in this battle, on both sides - who keep losing family members, children, babies -
and the young soldiers viewing this so much as a video game, especially when they can participate from a distance . . .
all people are capable of this, are capable of dastardly deeds - sometimes I think I 'hate men' - but realise they are just as much victims as everyone else of greater, evil powers.
Don't know if to blame G.d or the D....l - I do think - in the last analysis - that belief is a good thing - am prepared to be surprised!
