On the topic of lithium mining and processing, the Council of the Ústí Region visited the site of the processing plant in Újezdeček and Sedmihůrky, where the mining plant will be located. During the meeting, participants were introduced to individual facts about the localities and representatives of Dubí, Újezdeček, Košťany and Teplice met. A working group consisting of representatives of the Ústí Region, mayors of the affected municipalities, the government and the companies ČEZ and Geomet at the regional office also met. Many questions will be answered by the feasibility study, which will be completed at the end of November. Subsequently, a public presentation and discussion will take place in Teplice.
SEA and EIA
The evaluation of the SEA was prepared as part of the update of the Territorial Development Principles of the Ústí Region. Based on the results, the experts who processed the SEA issued an opinion in favor of changing the principles of territorial development, which proves that the entire project is being prepared with respect for the environment. By the end of this year, it is expected that the Ministry of the Environment will also issue its opinion on the SEA.
We want to start the EIA process next year," says CEO of Geomet Martin Pohlodek.
The investigative procedure for the mine plant, where the portal to the deep mine will be created, has already taken place in the past, and the comments received are reflected in the project. The investigative procedure for the processing plant and the affected infrastructure is currently being completed. Only after the evaluation of the conclusions from both Investigation Procedures can the EIA documentation itself be completed, which must also be processed in greater detail in accordance with the legislation. The EIA documentation is expected to be submitted in the second quarter of 2024. The competent authority will then have an independent assessment prepared for the processed EIA documentation.
So it looks to me that 2024 mostly will be spent on the EIA, which if submitted during the second quarter as stated, then hopefully there will be a decision by the end of 2024. Looking forward to 2025........ All that of course after the DFS and CEZ's decision to mine announcement.
