Do you honestly think they are the only two reasons?? But even then, one reason you quote is nonsense, as one doesn't need to understand how 'EV's work - I doubt many people bought any type of car only because they understood how they work. One usually goes into a dealer and look for a car that suits their needs - doubtful how it works is high on the agenda but do care about price paid and whether it's fit for purpose. Years ago if ladies were buying - the color and styling and perhaps internal features were a priority - didn't need to look under the hood for that.
You may have missed a few other key reasons, one being charging times, the other range anxiety and another safety and another is the quick depreciation in value etc.
As for being environmentally friendly not sure on that, as if one should begin to burn - toxic fumes spew, huge amounts of water required to put out the fire - water being a precious commodity wasted even as it is getting scarcer. Then the possible EV vehicle fire reignition even after the fire was put out. Never had such anxiety about an ICE vehicle parked in a driveway, undercover or in a garage - having an EV on the other hand would create such. Best to keep miles away from the high possibility of thermal runaway scenarios. AIMO
