While I agree in principal with your post, there is more to an ev than the motor(s), EVs complex battery.inverter charging system, electronic systems and cooling systems are complex and while these "parts" are in many cases miniature, they are nevertheless parts .
And electronic parts while they may be relative cheap (particularly the generic ones) fault diagnosis , rebuilding of boards etc is not. For example I had a repair yesterday where the bill was $440 and the two electronic parts involved were just over $20 !
That's about the cost of a new valve timing belt & water pump replacement. !
