Lithium is the gutta percha of the 21st Century. Fortunes were made until a less-expensive substitute that worked reasonably well was developed. That did not require slave labor, the same way lithium requires fossil fuels to supply all the luxury high-horsepower vehicles that people who don't care about the planet are alleged to demand.

Here's a hint for those whose knee-jerk reaction is "old news." When Bloomberg uses "in the past week" in an article, it means that it is not old news.

"In the past week, Sweden’s Northvolt AB said it made a breakthrough with the technology, while Chinese EV maker BYD Co. signed a deal to build a $1.4 billion sodium-ion battery plant."
