You need to remember that the "stories" would have constantly evolved with the times until some genius decided to write them all down and mass produce them. At that point the people preaching these stories started to have trouble changing them to suit the times, so had to start turning them into interpretative metaphors instead. Over time this has got harder and harder so they just refuse to talk about most of the stories because some are just so indefensible.
What ever happened to the devil and hell? That was a core part of their teachings for almost 2000 years and now they say there is no hell. No Devil. Where did they go? The church didn't spread BS fearmongering to control people for 20 centuries did it?
What about stoning your neighbor if they mow their yard or come to fix your electricity cables after a storm on the sabbath? Seems a little harsh doesn't it?
Really, read end to end I ask if any other book would be allowed to be sold with some of the things that it preaches.
Its not surprising that the church tried so hard over many centuries to kill off science. One invention alone has dogged the church more than any other. The printing press.
