The tool can do basic pretests and sampling same as the open hole tool. It runs same modules as the open hole tool except for the probe module which incorporates a drill bit and plugging mechanism. Because of the need for the special cased hole probe module you don't have the option of running any of the alternative probe modules available with the open hole tool (eg Saturn, dual packers, dual probes etc)

The Cased Hole MDT was designed primarily for work in production wells where you're chasing down fluid contacts that have moved due to production.

- hole is drilled in casing wall
- pretest is taken and any sampling performed
- a plug is inserted in the drilled hole before tool is retracted.
