I was talking to the engineers at Advanced Hybrid Solutions this morning regarding the progress to marketing a retrofit hydraulic hybrid to heavy vehicles. The unit is fitted to a garbage compactor. This will, as shown in a recent trial, reduce the fuel consumption by around 35% and in addition extend transmission life. It also reduces the wear on brake drums and asbestos brake pads, further reducing pollution. A further saving is on acceleration and braking time. This could allow up to a 10% increase in the number of bins collected in any day.
Engineers at the local Uni are working on refining the electronics and checking for any possible safety issues.
