DJ China Lithium Prices Poised for Wild Ride If Shorts Are Squeezed -- Market Talk
2326 GMT - Lithium carbonate futures on China's GFEX appear "to be a tinder box waiting to ignite on any bullish views," Citi analysts say in a note. They reckon the contract is at risk of a major technical spike heading into January on a potential short covering rally. Open interest on the January contract has built up significantly and the market remains very bearish due to expectations of supply outpacing demand, according to the analysts. "Either the longs give up and sell or the shorts suffer a potential squeeze," they say. "The next two to three weeks could be key. Either way, the contract is vulnerable to extreme price volatility."
