Just took a quick look at this and googled AFR NB.

It seems the extension was only until 31st Jan 2024 (less than 60 days away) and, as you pointed out required a payment of 1.25 mill by 31 Dec. (Basically, to cover the holiday period)

It looks to me as though they want to default MEL to get their payment, so they can pay RNC. Note that the balance of RNC loan ($3.75M ??) would be due by 31st Jan.

I may well be wrong in my thinking as only looked at it quickly but seems to me than KBC have much bigger problem than MEL.
