Worked as a ball mill operator on the hill at Mt Isa in 1957 - then as slag skimmer in the copper smelter - that was a hot job - no safety in those days the slag would explode sometimes as it came down the chute when we punched the clay dobie to skim the slag. Then worked for Thiess as a dump truck driver taking the hill away and dumping into the glory hole - back up to that big hole and hit the brakes. Then Bluey and I drove two dump trucks for Theiss to Biloela and took the first loads of overburden out of Kianga - the first shipment of coking coal to Japan. My daughter born in Mt Isa in 1962. And worked underground briefly a small copper mine between the Isa and Cloncurry - All the pubs and all the best fighters in town - Marshall Boyd will be long gone - last time I saw him was a bookie at Randwick in Sydney.
