Well fellow CXY holders ........why are we surprised at the mysterious goings on out Kingaroy way.
Certain things happening that hint of a smell on the political landscape and things being misreported to what is seemingly to suit a political or personal agenda.
Before going any further , I whole heartedly agree with Bunya that Mr Charleston (of the South Burnett Times fame) is probably sitting on the thickest coal seams in history, reportedly 8.21 klm thick under his 5 acre hobby farm.........astounding figures.
Firstly , Kingaroyites should be praising the coal industry and the efforts of the likes of RIO and future visionaries like CSG players CXY .
If it wasn't for what happened politically about 30 years ago, then the Meandu Mine and Tarong Power Stations would never have been built at that time (if ever)and the region would be nearly dead these days.
The recommendation at the time (30 yrs ago)was to locate the proposed new power station at Millmerrin because the quality of the Tarong/Kunioon Coal Seams was so poor (40 to 50%+ rejects)that the deposit probably would have remained untouched for a very long time. There was much better value for the taxpayers dollar in building the powerstation at Millmerrin which had much better quality coal. More bang for your buck so to speak.
The dairy and other industries that supported the region were shrinking dramatically with closures of many butter factories in all of the towns in the South Burnett. Young people of the region were leaving to go to the big city for work because there was very little on offer .
Being a good local politician and landholder , the then premier of Qld. appeared to over rule all recommendations by his own departments and ministers and ensured that the powerstation was built in his electorate. Thus injecting what is now billions of dollars into that economy and ensuring the survival of the region.
Right or wrong he had a vision of prosperity for his electorate.
Whole communities along with their families have grown , prospered , started work and retired comfortably in the region on the back of the coal industry since that one apparently political decision .
Maybe Anna B should move to Kingaroy ?
There is no tainted water at Kingaroy , that has been proven , only tainted opinions of newcomers or people with very short memories who bought 5 acre lots that no one would have wanted and would not have even been developed if not for the need for housing development to support all of the new employment opportunities that the new industry and infrastructure for the region had brought.
My memory fortunately is not that short , and when CSG is at the fore front of cleaner , economical and easily achievable energy solutions and coal fired power stations are closing down and these people's grandchildren are leaving them for the big city for work..........I hope they remember CXY and what should have been.
If CXY go down , I think I'll buy a banjo with the money I have left and send it to Kingaroy .
