I had a similar situation with a self-checkout which kept coming up with "wait for assistance" after every item I put in the bag. The supermarket woman came over with her fed up look several times, swiped her tag to reset then stormed off. On about the fifth time she had a go saying "you are doing it wrong".

I informed her "all I am doing is scanning the barcode then placing the item in the bag" then she muttered something unintelligible and stormed off to one of the 5 other customers having the same problem as me and left me waiting with the issue unresolved. When she eventually came back I said "you do it and lets see what happens". Sure enough the red light flashed and she got the same error. She quickly swiped her card to reset hoping I wouldn't notice.

I said "interesting .... maybe you are doing it wrong !". She glared at me and said "if you are rude to me I don't have to serve you".

I responded "Thats fine but I bet you do have to clean up after me if you piss me off !". After 5 seconds of silence I walked out the door and left her to pack up all the groceries and put them in a trolley to go back onto the shelves.

Never saw her again so I bet she is now working in govt department where "customers" don't have a alternative.
