"all very well being selfish when other generations are to follow"

Yep - future generations will also be happy that we have deferred the extra hospitals, rail infrastructure, roads, etc etc etc so we can install network infrastructure we might need.

For example - if we spent the 3B that the Parramatta to Epping link needs - we would save 1000s of people around an hour a day. Productivity improvements or at least quality of life. Also - less cars driven per day - less CO2.

Considering I can already remote control to fibre sites for pretty much any business application if a business needs it, I fail to see how a faster home connection is really that helpful.

I am not arguing that the backbones shouldn't be upgraded, nor that we don't need FTTN nor even that we need more nodes. Upgrade will be handy and will improve Australia's ability to provide service. I go so far as to argue fibre to all business centres and hospitals.

The issue is FTTH - why to every home?
