"I would have thought it an advantage to be spread out over 1.5Kms as takes 8 times as many linear meters to go vertical"... the advantage is in thick ore lodes over a short distance compared to skinny lodes over long distances (lateral or vertical). Highway (LHS) Reward (RHS) are very thick and high grade pipes up to 200m vertical and separated by 100m by way of example. Liontown lodes are generally thin and of large lateral extent when formed (New Queen Lode being an exception, called Carrington back when). i never claimed to have drill down into a detailed mining analysis... maybe wait for SHN to come out with their own feasibility study for more confidence.
