You are 100% correct, asylum seekers have a right to apply for refugee to Australia. But they don't have a right to jump the queue. There is a process to be followed and that means a refugee goes to a 3rd country and appies for resettlement not just to Aus but a wide range of countries. The ones who get on a boat are bypassing the process and country shopping and they are entitled to be demonised like their smugglers.
