Their claim for a god appears to be based around, the first time that God is use it is The God - Theon and the second time it is used it is God Theos.
This is where messing with word order, mess's with the Greek lingo.

Should be - In beginning was the Word and the Word was to the God and God was the Word.
From what I gather and this is brief, there are two different functions in 1:1, re God. Theon the object case and Theos the subject case. (There is more info on all this).
So, if you mess with word order, you mess with the Greek lingo and their intended meanings. There are two subjects or items in 1:1, God and his word and at the last faze, it is shown that God and his word are one in the same, identification as to what and who the word is = The God.
Where it says.......and the Word was = mind, reason, wisdom, thoughts, to plan to gathering of words, arrangement of word order for the plan -> to the God, prior to expressing, which is shown to have happened in 1:3, and God said and God said.
JW's also claim Theos is in ref to a god, but the God and Father is ref as Theos as well. They then say, Theos for the God and Father has the definite article in front of God and when it does not, it is a god. However, Theos without it, is also used for the God and Father in the Bible.
