the Word was a god. This makes no sense, is this from the Jehovah Witness Bible?
------------------------------
(John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. NWT
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with [the] God, and the Word was[no the]God. KJV
[my additions]
Check it in Greek. There is no definite article before god, so it cannot mean the Word is the God.
John 1 | Kingdom Interlinear | Books of the Bible (jw.org)
Use any Greek Bible you choose. None say the Word is the God. All teach the Word became flesh which clearly identifies Jesus as the Word.
(John 1:14) So the Word became flesh and resided among us, and we had a view of his glory, a glory such as belongs to an only-begotten son from a father; and he was full of divine favor and truth.
But of course, you know all that.
