This makes no sense, is this from the Jehovah Witness Bible?Word is Jesus it is still correct of John to say "the Word was God", because Jesus here is receiving the full imprimatur of God as His Word, while not implying that a Trinity is a literal reality.

KJV [my additions] Check it in Greek. There is no definite article before god, so it cannot mean the Word is the God. John 1 | Kingdom Interlinear | Books of the Bible (jw.org) Use any Greek Bible you choose. None say the Word is the God. All teach the Word became flesh which clearly identifies Jesus as the Word. (John 1:14) So the Word became flesh and resided among us, and we had a view of his glory, a glory such as belongs to an only-begotten son from a father; and he was full of divine favor and truth.
