The sign on for optic in the USA was only 30%. The majority of people just won't pay the $100+ monthly fee that will be required to pay off this thing.

Most CBD businesses and all major government agencies are already on fibre or fibre equivalent. Sad fact of commercial life is that higher transmission speeds don't really make anyone more productive. Those word documents and excel spreadsheets really don't take up much space.

As for all those people supposedly able to work from home, I don't need to 'see' you in your pajamas either. I deal with people on the east coast all the time, the telephone and email is all I need, it will be all the majority need. I can update websites and configure servers anywhere in the world already, it doesn't have to take nano seconds, the existing bottle neck is me.

Just like the dot.com 'new economy' really didn't change commerce anything like it was predicted, neither will this.

I'm sure there will be niche markets that will thrive and web commerce will continue to be taken up by the micro household businesses offering things like quilting and needlecraft though. The major impact it will have is on televisions and other forms of entertainment. 99% of us will still have to leave for work every morning, basically because the boss just doesn't trust us to stay home and work effectively.

BTW The USA is supposed to be largely 'wired' and the economy is tanking, maybe they just need to up their bandwidth?
