I've seen this US$300m amount mentioned for the Trof Ph 3 trial a number of times and always wondered where it came from. It's an astonishingly large amount and I have my suspicions its not quite true.

The published research I've been able to find suggests that orphan drug trials average half the cost of non-orphan drugs and on average Ph 3 orphan trials cost about US$50m. I've read similar numbers elsewhere.

If you think about it, with just 180 participants for 3 months, how would you spend $1.5million per patient? Do they each get their own leased private jet for the trial?

Perhaps Acadia might have other reasons to report they spent this much?

I suspect that the real cost could be much closer to the $54 million that someone quoted Margaret Brimble as saying.

In this case Neuren would have no trouble funding lots of them (tho they might not have the manpower to manage multiple Ph 3s at same time)
