The subject matter you learn at uni is often well behind the times.
I did my engineering degree at Melbourne Uni.
I went on to spend a few years on the tools in Australia, NZ and the UK, working with some world leading engineers.
I then did my Masters back at UNSW.
In many of the lectures during my Masters I was correcting the lecturers, saying, "that's not how that is approached now."
Was what I was being taught incorrect? No.
But it wasn't current practice. A lot of the learnings in industry won't ever end up in a paper, because it's considered a competitive advantage. You publish what you know, it becomes public domain.
That doesn't make your education less valuable, learning how to learn independently is the key takeaway from uni, not necessarily the subject matter itself.
