Well supposedly its more expensive because of the battery and all the other tech inside, along with needing to find someone qualified to sort it in the event something happens. So lets say its $500 more a year to insure. Add another $500 for car rego because thats calculated off car weight and you now operate a vehicle with a heavy battery likely heavier than an internal combustion engine, radiator etc.... But hey, lets then deduct $2,000 in savings that you make not having to fill up weekly/biweekly/monthly at a fuel station.
So overall apart from the initial price your saving at a minimum $1,000 a year driving an EV around rather than a ICE.
In addition to not having anywhere near the Co2 emissions or noise or fuel dump pollution on the road. You will also be able to charge from home if your range isnt too significant to need to use charging stations thus saving you 10-15minutes of your time at a fuel station or more if you fill up on cheap fuel day.
The savings are then also amplified if your home has solar power.
As for re-use, in time they will simply take out the old 8 year old battery, recycle its bits while giving you a new one at a fraction of the price. So to say after 8 years its done is silly. Not to mention again innovation. Someone may come up with a way to make EV batteries last 20 years. Who knows.
