Tariffs IMO may send the Chinese a clear message it is game on but tariffs on RE Chinese exports can have the counter-productive effect of Western countries manufacturing in China to avoid them. Do we then next step put tariffs on the value added product being exported from China.. Where does it all end. IMO I could see tariffs creating a headache. The horse has bolted now. We should have just stayed away from the Chinese 40 years ago. The western manufacturers at least need cheap rare earths from China to reduce costs on their products to in turn compete with the same Chinese made product. What a mess. I think to diversify now would send some industries to the wall.
just an off topic relating to crustaceans. My heart was bleeding when the Australian lobster industry had to sell to the Australian market for reasonable prices during the Chinese import ban. They can cry on someone else's shoulder.
