Hertz are planning on selling 20,000 EV's due to their value dropping more than expected.
Lets assume they paid 50k each, most rental car companies keep a vehicle for 2-3 years before offloading, they would have assumed a resale of ~40k.
Over the past 12 months Tesla has slashed the price of new EV's by 20-25% in the US.
If those same EV's can be bought new for 40k, Hertz's resale is lower than expected, hence they are writting them off the balance sheet.
Hertz's decision is purely economic, Tesla's decision is demand related
