There are various afflications human beings can suffer in life. These include sickness, injury, aging, death and immprisonment for crimes.

Being imprisoned for crime is a good example of the general thoughtlessness human beings often have towards life's various afflications.

Generally, human beings carry on with their ordinary lives, giving little thought to these possible and/or inevitable afflications.

Whether one is a good person or a bad person, a religious person or a non-religious person, this thoughtlessness can be the same.

Take many criminals, such as the poor drug mule Scott Rush who is now facing the death sentence in Bali. Or I recall the Abberton brothers from Maroubra Beach who were on trial for murder.

These thoughtless people, pre-occupied with their ordinary lives (be it good or bad) turned immediately to religion in their times of trouble.

The Abbertons and Scott Rush turned up in court drapped in crucifixes. And when the Abbertons were found to be not guilty, they thanked God and Jesus (even though it was the jury that found them not guilty based on the perceived facts of the case).

In brief, taking faith in such things is a reflection upon how little we as individuals have reflected upon life and its inevitable afflications.

By doing so, our carelessness and lack of acceptance remain.

    Best wishes
