We would'nt be needing (and historically have never needed) a super mining tax if:
a) there was not such a mountain of recent debt due to rushed, poorly considered stimilus programs ( eg $1b for fridges/TVs, $16b for BER, $3b for insulation)
b) $10b had not been promised to two independents to alow Labor to form a minority govt.
This last point is my segway back to the thread topic ... I believe Liberals didn't pursue the independents with the same unhealthy vigour as the Labor Party.
Are the Liberals being principled and pragmatic, believing that without compromising the nation with bribe related debts, they stand a good chance of winning the next election for all the right reasons, in probably well short of three years?
