Christ made it clear that those who had not realised their need of Him until later in their lives would not be discriminated against, and He was clearly willing to rebuke anyone who might complain against His generosity.
He didn't refuse people who were afraid. Some fears are well-founded, and drive people to wise actions, not craven ones. Running to Him is wisdom, not weakness, IMO.
Just be glad that "these people" have asked for your prayers, offer them unstintingly, and hope for the very best possible outcomes for both the injured man and his friends.
