I was surprised they got the permission to fill in the valley to the west of the mine entrance, it is a major reconstruction of the surrounding topography. And that was 11 years ago. Would be interesting to see how much space is actually left, and like you say, once the current site reaches capacity dont know where the next location will be.
They have a similiar issue at Maldon, but with the taillings. The tailings dam are at maximum footprint not, can see it on aerial imagery. The only future expansion is the raise the dam walls, but there is restrictions on how high they can raise. Maldon will become a major headache in terms of future tailings emplacement. Possibly require a new licence area to be applied for, and we all know how quickly the government works on such things.
At Maldon i do believe they are trying to process high grade ore only, as the tailings space is limited. So any tailings they generate they need to get maximum value and space for amount produced
