I don't want to buy into this too much because such a topic tends to bring out the worst in people, or at least fire-up emotions, but just a couple of things. I'm 7 generations Australian and my recent Ancestry DNA test tells me I'm predominantly Scandinavian, Irish and Spanish with a smattering of various British bloodlines. My first wife was a Torres Strait Islander, so we added a few extra generations on that side.

So Westerner sells a bit short my blood-line that speaks to endless invasion, subjugation, war, displacement and migration. I'm here now but who the hell am I?

Something that pissed me off recently big-time was we were trying to get a little bit of Homecare for a 91 year mother-in-law who still does mostly for herself. We were informed that all allocations for Homecare assistance were used up and there was no assistance available at this time, unless she was an immigrant. After informing them that we would take this to the media immediately a few hours per week of Homecare became available.

Now my main point here is how such actions on behalf of government bodies causes divides. A person who has put 91 years of life into this country can rightfully feel a tad peeved when a newly arrived gets services that you can't get unless you kick up a big stink, which is what we did. I do not begrudge immigrants services to help them settle in, but not at the expense of long term contributors to this country.
