Not exactly serbian territory was it, it was ceded to them in 1912 as an autonomous region.
That wasnt enough for the serbs was it?

Ultimately they lost control because NATO stepped in when the serbs tried to 'cleanse' it.
Silly mistake by the serbs, overestimating their capabilities and losing control.

Other than the attempts at cleansing the locals by putin and the serbs, there is no similarities with ukraine.
