We will never get high speed rail. The reason is those are the most lucrative travel corridors for airlines. If they had to compete with a rail option, the airlines would go bankrupt, in particular virgin or the second airline would definitely go under. There is no point building a rail network to kill the domestic airline industry and a airline industry is more valuable.
Also NSW and Vic have essentially the same amount of people employed in public sector at approx 10-11%. Issue is Vic just doesn't get the coal and other royalties the other states do...so they are basically f*ed.
