At the moment Labor hold 77 seats, the Coalition 58 and Others 16. (76 to win in own right)
Shortly there will be a byelection in the marginal seat of Dunkley after the death of the Labor member which should be an indication of how Labor are perceived by the electorate.
Additionally at the next Federal election there will be a reduction of seats contested after a redistribution to reflect relative population changes and associated growth rates which were affected by the pandemic, specifically at the time set as one year after the last Federal election.
New South Wales and Victoria lose a seat each, WA gains one.
NSW now 47 changes to 46 seats
VIC now 39 changes to 38 seats
WA now 15 changes to 16 seats
QLD 30 seats
SA 10
Tasssie 5
ACT 3
NT 2
The House of Reps will be reduced from 151 seats to 150.
The parties have been putting their arguments to the AEC about which seats they think should disappear.
