The Balance of trade equation re transition to EVs.
On the positive side:
(a) less petroleum imports (how much?)
(b) Less engine spare parts imports (how much?)
(c) Less Brake import parts (how much?)
On the negative side:
(a) higher price of import EVs vs ICEs (how much?)
(b) extra cost of imported electricity generation hardware (How much?)
(c) extra cost of battery imports (how much?)
(d) more electric motor and electric component imports) (how much)
IMO the above calcs would have to be done over the lifetime of both ICEs & BEVs...say 15 years.
This equation's bottom line (Trade Surplus) has nothing to do with an individual's cost of ownership
of a BEV vs an ICE and over time, the question is how much of the EV spare parts can be
manufactured in Aus. A start has been made by Infinitive that rebuilds EV batteries locally.
