Sumitomo is and along with many major companies have invested into the Nano one cathode production process in Quebec which is producing and sending large samples of their anode material around the world for assessment.
Less expensive and greener.
Part of the Green strategy is using local materials and definitely part of the Champagne Trudeau strategy.
The success of Nano One is paramount for the Canadian Government as these people who are and were the brains behind lfp tech and were left in a heap in the last Li rout and Gov red faced.
To get Canadian intellect into battery tech, in production in Canada, with Canadian minerals and in the near future batteries made in Canada will be a huge win politically and great for the economy and sector etc.
The missing piece atm is Lithium Carbonate made in Canada.
ALB has been pulling back from China in recent months.
ALB and Sumitomo could well be looking at NAL instead of LTR and with the support of the Canadian Gov.
A less expensive option IMO.
No shipping, Green cheap energy, water and staff.
NAL is producing enough spod to feed a carbonate refinery, plenty of spod around for expansion.
The refinery is a renovation project.
