It's also a study into human psychology and the dangers of becoming emotionally attached to an idea, which makes it harder for us as humans to admit we are wrong.
Confirmation bias affects everyone of us to varying degrees. Corporates spend millions of dollars every year to try and ensure that they're not falling victim to it, and the best companies have rigorous processes and checks in place before making major investment decisions.
