    Son of Baglimit,

tax is a necessary evil if a society wants to provide essential services. I think mose reasonable people don't mind paying a fair tax as long as is is spent wisely.

Work life balance is important, but pressures on the young families is huge (motgage etc) so extra dollars come in handy. However I agree that the search for dollars places additional strain on family life and you do miss out on those extra quality times.

I am lucky (or unlucky depending how you see it) that I don't have children at present and my wife works long hours as well. We don't really do it for the money, just we are committed to our jobs (me to my clients, her to her students).

Rather than tax and hand out allowances (heaps lost in the handling process), the tax system should reduce the burden on PAYG by broadening the base, charge at lower rates and returning more to families in the form increased take home pays. It can be done, but takes a strong political will not only to change attitudes but to breakdown the stale bureacracy.

By the way I love to cook when I get the chance.

    Cheers
