Quebec Oil and Gas Association will go public today, 14 September 2010, to explain into more details the process behind what's being done in the Lowlands and what it represents for Quebec.
Andre Caille says that all questions and concerns will be listened to, even those of the environmentalists. The QOGA says that Quebec has a very important opportunity to become independent on its own natural gas supply (it's actually importing 100% of its natural gas from Alberta) and that by doing so, can reduce by 5% its supply as compression facilities (to push the gas in the pipeline) require that more gas be imported as there are losses in the process. Jobs and investments will also be here in Quebec. Quebec already pays 2B$ just to import its natural gas from Alberta.
The QOGA says that exploration and commercialization can be done in the respect of the environment and that the watershed protection is of primary importance from them. That's not negotiable as we all drink water and that water is at the basis of all human needs. Steel cases are being used to avoid leaks in the watershed.
