"As to EVs particularly, I had a colleague say earlier today that his mates 5 year old Tesla has to get a replacement battery and the cost is apparently going to be $52k, with which he is in a legal dispute with Tesla. Doesn't seem to me that this figure can be real....."
$52K for a battery pack for a Tesla? That sounds deluded. It actually sounds like the figure has been embellished somewhat....I suspect its actually come from the anti-EV brigades list of standard reasons not to buy an EV.
Your mate's mate has had to replace a battery pack on his EV....my neighbour had to replace engine on her new Kia ICE SUV.
All the above aside I agree that EVs and other green technologies should be part of a lower reliance on oil and gas not a replacement for same.
