Rare earths are as abundant as lithium. Do some research for a change. Like lithium, however, rare earths abundancy doesn't translate to commercial deposits, hence why there are few viable deposits around and everyone is exploring for them. If you are going to break China's dominance and get into the EV market from mining through to making EVs in country you are going to have to find or get your hands on commercial deposits.

Take cobalt - whilst largely produced in the DRC a number of those resources are Chinese owned.

The JVs in relation to Greenbushes and Mt Marion mean the lithium is sold to the end customer as an equity share. Take Greenbushes, Tianqi takes its share of lithium and uses it for its own purposes. Now FIRB has started cracking down on Chinese ownership in rare earth and lithium deposits - case in point Alita will go to MIN because FIRB rejected that Chinese entity taking it over. Get the drift, China has to look elsewhere for critical minerals or have offtakes for them (i.e like they do in PLS).

If you my view on why their is corruption with Manono - t is because FIRB rejected increased Chinese ownership in AVZ you might recall. This IMO upped the stake for the Chinese to become morally corrupt in seeking to attain that resource.

    All IMO
