SSkim - kill them or preferably repel them (bugs that is). Brisbane is the home of fruit fly, it's a bit fiddly but there are bags and also complete enclosures you can get - depends on the size of what you're trying to protect - I've found this one which I've used and they seem O.K.

As a last resort I think it's spelt "Dipel" - it's a bacteria which occurs naturally and infects caterpillars and is harmless to humans ( I think I've heard that before! ) - anyway, last resort.
